Nursing Bra Blog

Congratulations you’re expecting!
You may have noticed changes in your breasts even before you knew you were pregnant, and you’ll likely experience size fluctuations throughout pregnancy and/or your breastfeeding journey.

It is common early on in a pregnancy for your current bras quickly no longer fit or start to feel uncomfortable, and this may be a great time to go for a bra fitting to find something that will adapt to your changing body.  Whether you look for a more comfortable regular bra, a maternity bra or a nursing bra, there are many options to choose from.

A maternity bra is generally worn while you are pregnant and is designed in a way that doesn't place any pressure on your breast tissue. A nursing bra is typically worn while you are breastfeeding and includes nursing clips which allow the front of the cup to drop down for baby to feed.

If you are planning to breastfeed, the best thing you can do for yourself is invest in quality bras that are designed to work with your body, not against it. With the right kind of nursing bra, you’ll be able to enjoy your nursing experience even more.

Since regular bras are fairly structured, you may not be able to easily nurse without disrobing or taking off your bra. Nursing bras and Cami’s feature cups that clip, fold down, or pull aside for quick and often one-handed access, allowing for you to be able to discreetly feed your little one anywhere.

Sleep-style nursing bras also provide just the right amount of support at night, without making you feel constricted. Since milk production often peaks around midnight, you’ll most likely want a comfortable bra to support you through the night.  A sleep-style bra will also help keep your nursing pads in place to avoid milk soaked clothes or sheets.

If you are planning on nursing, some helpful tips would be to shop for a nursing bra closer to your due date or shortly after the baby is born.  The choice between whether or not to wear a wired nursing bra is more of a personal decision. If you do choose to wear a wired nursing bra, make sure to give your body an eight hour wire free window each day.
Some key things to keep in mind, is that 85-90% of the bras support will come from the firmness in the band.
Let our professional fitter’s help you find the right bra for your body and lifestyle. We can help you avoid wasting money and time on bras that don’t fit or work for your body type.
